Rock Into Fall! A Scarf and Tracing Play-Along for Elementary Music
Anyone else rehearsing December concert music while the leaves are still falling outside? That’s where I am in November! I still like to make room for a little fall fun, and when I heard Fall by Owen Hughes and Luke Baxter, I knew my students would want to move to it.
This song has an ’80s rock ’n’ roll feel, and the freestyle section is a chance for students to show off their own scarf moves. With permission from MusicFirst Elementary, I created a play-along video that lets students show where the melody goes. They can trace the path with a finger or follow it in the air with a scarf.
Grab the matching manipulatives
Want students to have a path they can trace right in front of them? The companion manipulatives give them another way to follow the melody as it moves up and down. I’ve also included a Five Fun Facts About Fall slide with a rock ’n’ roll challenge. Can your students flick their scarves on beats 2 and 4?
