The Addams Family Scarf Play-Along
Have you seen the video of the visual and movement coordination with the cups to Vic Mizzy's The Addams Family? It is a great video where the chorus of the song is used to help students coordinate movement with visual cues. Many of us would love to emulate this in our music classes, but how do we do that with numerous children?
There are many excellent boomwhacker, body percussion, rhythm play-along videos, along with cup routine videos. I wanted to re-create that particular video with the visual cues, so I made it into a scarf play-along video where the students use scarves and body movements to follow the visual cues on the screen.
Manipulatives
Though watching the video is very self-explanatory, I love to include manipulatives to assist with teaching the movements. They include the following patterns, where the pointer will guide them:
Move the scarf to the macrobeat up and down, and then cross the midline and perform it on the other side.
End with the final slides:
And throw the scarf in the air.
Have fun with this one and grab the manipulatives in the Extra Session found at https://buymeacoffee.com/elmusedtech/extras
