Is there a tool that can tell me the key and tempo of a song, show me the lyrics, create a practice track, and work across multiple devices?
This is the 5th blog post highlighting a tool from Katie's The Ultimate Free Tech Resources Guide 2025-2026. This week, we are exploring moises.ai, a free+ tool found in the AI Stem Splitters Category.
You can create a free Moises account to explore many of its features, making it a great tool for the classroom. Here are five practical ways to use it in your teaching:
1. Determine and Change the Key of a Song
(Limited in the free version)
If you’re working with a YouTube song that needs adjustments—such as removing vocals, changing tempo, or transposing—you can first save the video as an MP3 (Google or ask your AI assistant for simple instructions), then upload it into Moises.
Moises will automatically detect the song’s key, which is especially useful for:
Writing or adapting lead sheets.
Transposing to a more comfortable key for your students’ voices or classroom instruments (like recorders or ukuleles).
Simply open the Key menu and select a new key that best fits your ensemble.
See the blue circle in the image.
2. Adjust the Tempo of a Song
Just as you can change the key, Moises also allows you to slow down or speed up a song while maintaining pitch quality.
This feature is ideal when:
Students are learning a fast song and need a slower tempo for accuracy.
You want to gradually increase the tempo as they improve.
It’s a simple and effective way to scaffold skill development during rehearsals.

3. Display Lyrics for Karaoke Activities
Select the Lyrics tool at the bottom of the Moises screen, and the app will automatically detect and display the song’s lyrics. When you press play, the lyrics scroll in real time, creating a karaoke-style experience—perfect for student sing-alongs or lyric analysis activities.
Note: In the free version, lyrics are only viewable for the first minute of the song.
See the yellow circle.
4. Create Custom Practice Tracks
When you upload a song, Moises automatically separates the recording into individual stems (vocals, drums, bass, piano, guitar, etc.).
This is fantastic for:
Muting the vocal track so your singers can rehearse with an accompaniment.
Removing the drum part so percussion students can practice at home.
Creating backing tracks for guitarists, pianists, or other instrumentalists.
It’s an easy way to support individualized practice and differentiated learning.

5. Access Moises Across Multiple Devices
Moises is available on multiple platforms:
Web app (browser-based)
Desktop apps for Mac and PC
iPad app for mobile learning
This cross-platform accessibility makes Moises ideal for flexible classroom setups or student home practice. If an EDU version becomes available—as many educators are hoping—it could further streamline classroom use across school networks and devices.
Export:
Those items above work well because you can export your new version of the song as an audio mix in the free version. In the paid version, you can export all of the stems as separate files. Additionally, the free version allows for up to five tracks per month, each under five minutes in length.
More features:
The paid version gives you many more features. The premium version at $5.99 a month includes (as of one year ago), can be found here:
Unlimited music
Track separation
Extended files for up to 20 minutes
Paster processing
Unlimited metronome
